Saroj Khan was hospitalized on June 20, after she complained of having breathing issues. A mandatory coronavirus test was also conducted on her, which turned out to be negative. On 3rd July, at 2:30 am she breathed her last breath. The cause of her death is due to sudden cardiac arrest. Saroj Khan was one of the most loved and appreciated choreographers of the Bollywood industry. She has been a 3-time National award winner for her songs, namely Dola re dola, Yeh Ishq Haaye, and Ek do deen.
She had a career of 40 years in Bollywood with more than 2000 songs. Her journey is truly memorable as she started her career as a child artist by playing as a child Shyama in the film Nazrana just at the age of 3. She was a background dancer in the late 1950s and learned dance under choreographer B. Sohanlal. Further, she worked as an assistant dance choreographer, and then she got her first break as an independent choreographer in the film called ‘Geeta Mera Naam.’ After several years of hard work, she finally got accolades for her work in the song ‘Hawa Hawai’ in Mr. India which starred Shri Devi. Her works in films like Nagina and Chandni were also appreciated and admired. And then finally she nailed the song ‘Ek do deen’ that made her win the national award. And rest all is history. Her very famous songs starred Madhuri and Shri Devi. Madhuri Dixit shared an incredible bond with her and Guru-Shishya Jodi worked together in many iconic song numbers. Saroj Khan had choreographed many big female actors like Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Shri Devi, Kareena Kapoor, and the list goes on and on. She was known to be one of the sweetest and strict choreographers in the Bollywood Industry. Her recent song was from the movie Kalank called ‘Tabah Ho Gaye’ which starred Madhuri Dixit.
Today everyone in the Bollywood industry is mourning about her demise. She will be remembered forever in our hearts. May her soul rest in peace. 2020 continues to be the worst year of Bollywood as it lost some great legends this year.
