The Independence Day of India is celebrated tremendously throughout the nation. This national holiday is very close to every Indian, as, on this day, India got free from the clutches of British colonial rule on 15th August 1947. The day also marks the partition of India. 

British rule in India started in the year 1757, following the British victory at the Battle of Plassey, after which British East India Company started ruling the country. The company ruled India for 100 years after which it was replaced by the British crown. The Indian Independence movements started during world war1 by many freedom fighters who wanted to end the British rule. And finally, India became completely free from British rule on 15th August 1947.

This day is celebrated in the country by organizing cultural programs, flag ceremonies, drills, and singing of the National Anthem. On this day, the PM delivers the speech about the accomplishments of the nation during previous years and underlines the future challenges and goals. In his speech, the PM also gives tribute to the leaders who fought for India’s independence. The speech is followed by a march past of divisions of Indian armed and paramilitary forces. All this event is organized at Red Fort, the historic monument of old Delhi. 

Many flag hoisting ceremonies are conducted by government and non-government institutions. Also, many schools and colleges organize flag hoisting and cultural events to celebrate this day. In Delhi and other cities, kites with different sizes and shapes are flown on this occasion.  To celebrate this special day, Government offices in New Delhi remain lit throughout the day even though they are closed. 

On this day many citizens of India embellish their clothing, wristbands, cars, etc with the replicas of tricolor.  Many National flags of different sizes are used to celebrate and symbolize the freedom of India. On this special day, many cultural programs are telecast on TV.  Also, Many patriotic movies are broadcasted on this special occasion. Over the years, the celebration of this day has broadened and is religiously observed by the citizens of India.
