The government of India has banned 47 more Chinese apps that were clones of the previously banned Chinese apps in India. The official list and the announcement are yet to be made. There are over 275 more apps under scrutiny for violation of national security. According to some sources, the judgment of banning more Chinese apps was made after the security review by the Telecom Minister.
The latest banned Chinese apps include TikTok Lite, Helo Lite, Bigo lite, and many other apps that were operating as clones are now made unavailable on Google and Apple stores. According to the sources, over 275 apps are under scrutiny for violation of citizen privacy and security, the list is expected to include the famous gaming app PUBG, Ludo World, Aliexpress for the ban. There are some other apps from Meitu, LBE Tech, Perfect Corp, Netease Games, Yoozoo Global under solid observation. The latest apps that are banned were accused of sharing personal data with Chinese agencies.
Formerly, a warning was issued to 47 Chinese banned apps to strictly follow the government’s law and order or face legal action. Reacting to the Chinese apps ban, the Chinese Ministry Foreign spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that “China is strongly concerned, and is verifying the situation. He also said that the Chinese government always asks Chinese companies to abide by International and local regulations. He further added that the Indian Government has also a responsibility to uphold the legal rights of international investors including Chinese.
The Information Technology ministry released the statement saying that they received a lot of complaints from various sources about the misuse of some apps available on Android and Apple platforms for stealing information and transferring data to unauthorized servers located outside India. The compilation of these data, its mining is a threat to National Security and defense of India.
