Tulsidas Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of the great saint and poet Tulsidas Goswami. Every seventh day of Shravan month is remembered as the birthday of a great poet. And this year, Tulsidas Jayanti falls on the 27th of July 2020. On this auspicious day, many temples of Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama recite Ramcharitamanas as a tribute to the great sage and poet Tulsidas.

Tulsidas was born in the year 1589 in the village named Rajapur in Bandha district of Uttar Pradesh. He was a great saint and a follower of Lord Ram. Most of his life was spent traveling to places like Ayodhya, Varanasi, and other places in India. The very famous Tulsi Ghat in Varanasi is named after him because he lived his golden years there.

Tulsidas is known for his literary work in Awadhi and Sanskrit languages. The original Valmiki Ramayan in Sanskrit was difficult to understand. It was Tulsidas who created Ramcharitramanas in Awadhi language, which popularized the epic Ramayana. He also composed some great poems that teach lessons of life. Many stories revolve around him that he had seen Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama for real because there are hints given in his poems regarding meeting Lord Rama and Hanuman. Tulsidas also founded Sankat Mochan temple as a devotion to Lord Hanuman where he got the sight of the deity.

There are also famous miracle stories of Tulsidas which were spread through word of mouth. Also, many people considered him as the reincarnation of Rishi Valmiki because he was the only one who introduced the Ramcharitramans.

Tulsidas wrote many famous poems that are considered to be the greatest contribution to Indian literature. So let’s celebrate this greatest poet’s life by remembering him on his birth anniversary. Let’s show gratitude to this great poet who popularized Ramcharitramanas in India. It is because of him every common man in India knows about Lord Ram as a supreme being.
