Bandish Bandits is an Amazon Prime original that focuses on music. Finally, a web series which is not a crime thriller. It’s a new web series that shows the clash between Indian Classical music and Pop music. Music is the central theme of the series, and till the end, the series focuses on its subject.
Now coming to the cast, the main leads of the series are Naseeruddin Shah, Ritwik Bhowmik, and Shreya Chaudhary. Naseeruddin Shah, as Rathod, is seen as the classical music maestro, a disciplinarian, and the one who is stingy when it comes to praise. He is also the head of the family who never takes any wrong decisions and is full of traditional values. Soon, the family’s finances begin to falter. The eldest son Rajendra runs into massive debt, and his brother sings ad jingles for a living. The grandson Radhe is the only one who meets the high standards of his grandfather Rathod, but he also begins to falter when he meets Tamanna.
Tamanna is a pop music star and an internet sensation who has a dream to share the stage with the international music star called Queen Elli. Her recent song fails to impress the audience, so she comes to Jodhpur for some inspiration, and soon she runs into Radhe. She gets impressed by his singing talent and offers to collaborate with her. Radhe also likes her singing live and agrees to her proposal because of the financial problems faced by his family. But, due to his grandfather Rathod’s traditional values, he keeps his identity anonymous so that nobody could recognize him. Soon the pair becomes a hit, and Radhe becomes the musical sensation along with Tamanna.
But for how long Radhe can keep his secret away from his family? Then there comes another secret of Rathod’s elder son from an earlier musician wife and ex disciple Atul Kulkarni who are extra-ordinary artists but have an open approach towards music. With this narrative, the series has also beautifully explained the highs and lows of classical musicians and modern musicians.
This musical drama is a treat to watch not because of fresh narrative but with great music by the side. Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have given excellent music to the series, which touches your heart and soothes your ear. Be it classical or contemporary. The music is top-notch.
Also, the performances by the star-cast are phenomenal. The ending is quite not impressive, and some characters are a little stereotyped, but still, you won’t resist yourself to binge-watch this show once you watch the first two episodes. So Bandish Bandits is a one-time watch series that has fantastic direction, music, and stellar performances.
So go and binge-watch this series if you are a music lover, and I bet you will not get disappointed at all.
