Unlock 3: Key Takeaways

On the 29th of July, Wednesday, the new guidelines were announced under the ‘Unlock -3’ phase. There are some relaxations given on the restrictions of the areas outside the containment zones. The guidelines issued will come into effect from the 1st of August,2020. 

So coming to relaxations given under Unlock 3 phase are as follow

  • Under the new guidelines, the night curfews that were imposed upon the country will now be lifted under Unlock 3 phase
  • Independence functions will be allowed to incorporate in various states and districts of the country by following social-distancing norms and other health protocols such as wearing masks, etc. It was also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the flag and deliver an annual speech. 
  •  Gyms and Yoga institutions are now allowed to operate from August 5, by following social-distancing and SOPs issued by the government.
  • There will be no restriction on the movement of people or goods in intrastate or interstate. No e-permits will be required for such movements.
  • International Air travel has also been permitted in a limited manner. Any further opening will be undertaken in a careful manner. 
  • Commercial stores and private companies are allowed to operate outside containment zones but by following social-distancing norms and other protocols. 

Restrictions that are still imposed under Unlock 3

  • Schools, colleges and other educational institutes will remain closed till 31st August. 
  • Cinema Halls, metro services, auditorium, swimming pools, entertainment parks, and other social gathering places will remain shut till 31st August. 
  • Social, political, religious, and academic functions are still prohibited under Unlock 3 phase. 
  • Like the previous guidelines under Unlock 1 and 2, the children under 10 years of age, pregnant women, and aged people above 64 years are advised to stay indoors except for essential needs or for healthcare purposes. 
  • Restrictions in the containment zones continue in order to combat the novel coronavirus. Only essential activities will be allowed under containment zones. No relaxations will be incorporated in the containment zones. 

The guidelines issued under Unlock 3 phase were formulated with the consultation of the State government. While the central government is giving exemptions under unlock 3, there are some states where lockdown is being imposed. The central government has given authority to the state government for imposing restrictions in the interest of the public outside the containment zones.  

India has crossed the 1.5 million mark of active COVID cases and the recoveries jumped to 9,88,029. The death rate is 2.25% while the global average is about 4%.
