15th July World Youth Skills day

by trendmainia

Back in 2014, The United Nations declared 15th July as world youth skills day. This day is celebrated to equip young people with skills that are important to get employment or to run a business and to lead a decent life. It is also important to strengthen them to face global challenges in the upcoming future.

This world youth skills day has taken place in a challenging situation where a pandemic has hit the world and resulted in worldwide lockdown. Due to the pandemic, there has been a closure of institutions of vocational training and education. Around 70% of the world’s learners are affected by closures of school and learning institutes. Every economy needs to have skilled youth to fight against future challenges. Due to COVID-19, young people are asked to participate in the recovery process. But to do that, they need to be equipped with skills to adapt to disruptive changes and be resilient. Therefore the core theme of this youth skills day is “Skills for resilient youth.” Many online discussion panels will be held by the UN on this day.

Importance of World Youth Skills Day

We are now almost 8 billion people. And the most productive people are the young generation.. Since 2017, there has been a growth in unemployment. Now more youth stays in schools or colleges for a prolonged period instead of entering the labor market. But still, young people are either unemployed or employed with minimal wages, living in poverty. It is happening due to the gap in the skills they need to develop and the skills imparted in schools or colleges. Every country needs young people to help in developing the nation. And this is only possible by educating and imparting the correct set of skills and training to youth. So to spread the word of equipping the young generation with skills to sustain a good and decent life and to face challenges with resilience in the future is the only aim of celebrating world youth skills day.
