Meditation is a very complex term, and there is no precise definition of it. But it can be considered as a mental exercise that is helpful for our mental health, just like physical exercise is good for our physical health. In this stressful world, where anxiety has taken over us, we need meditation to relax our minds.
Meditation solves many mental problems, and that’s why it has gained popularity around the globe. Meditation was earlier considered a spiritual activity, but now it is recognized as a mental relaxation activity. To have peace with our minds has become essential. One needs to know about oneself first and then others. We need to take time for ourselves to introspect our activities and to develop more feelings like compassion, gratitude, and love for others. Inner peace is the ultimate happiness, and that comes from within. We don’t need to search for happiness in the outside world when it is itself attached to ourselves.
Meditation is more like mental training of our mind, where we focus on our breath and experience how our mind wanders here and there when we try to concentrate on one thing. Meditation is difficult to practice on initial days, but with time we gradually become better at it. But persistence is the key. We need to practice meditation regularly to experience its benefits in our lives.
Now let’s head up to types of meditation
Mindfulness meditation
Mindfulness meditation is the one where we need to be aware of our surroundings. Or say where we practice being fully present at the moment. In this type, you observe your thoughts and emotions without being reactive to it. You just need to let them pass. Mindful meditation can be performed anytime and anywhere. For instance, when you are commuting, waiting in a line, etc. You don’t even need a quiet place to practice it.
Guided Meditation
In this method of meditation, you visualize or imagine a picture or situations that eases your mind. Also, it implies to use more senses like sound, smell to provoke calmness in ourselves. This type of meditation is practiced with the help of a guide, therefore it is known as guided meditation.
Breath awareness meditation
As the name suggests, in this type of meditation we focus on our breath and prevent other thoughts coming into our mind. The ultimate goal is to just concentrate on our breathing process and not to think of any other things. It is also a form of mindfulness meditation where we observe our breathing.
Loving-kindness meditation
This type of meditation is also known as Metta meditation. In this one, the ultimate focus is to develop an attitude of love, compassion, and gratitude towards everything. While breathing deeply, one sends messages of love to the loved ones and world by repeating phrases until it comes from within. It helps in cultivating feelings of love and compassion for everyone in the world. Also, relaxes our mind from bitter feelings like anger and hatred.
So this was about meditation and some of its types that are performed all-round the globe. Practice meditation and attain your mental peace and happiness with the help of it.
